Members of Parliament suggest the process of building a new office for National Parliament is accelerated, because the current office is too small.
MP Jacinta Pereira Abu Cau said before the mandate of the third legislature ends, the new building should be constructed.
“Just to give an example, when Commission D held a presentation for workers from several companies, we were pushing against each other,” MP Pereira said in National Parliament.
The MP said there should be a good, new building to dignify the sovereign body before the end of their mandate.
At the same place, MP Joaquin dos Santos complained about the process of building the new parliament building, because it’s already the second year of the third
legislature’s mandate, but the first stone hasn’t been laid for the new building.
“We are very embarrassed,” the Fretilin MP said.
Therefore, he called on the table of parliament to clarify, because there has been no result on the plan since the first legislature.
“President, what is the mistake and who made the mistake?” the MP asked.
In response to this question, the President of National Parliament Vicente Guteres said the first legislature identified land in Hera to build the office, but it was cancelled as it wasn’t considered secure.
Then, the second legislature looked for land beside the João Paulo II statue in Tasi Tolu and did a preliminary study, but it was too expensive.
“That’s why the Prime Minister took a deep breath then arranged land in the former Dili airport in the Presidential Palace in Aitarak Laran,” said the President of Parliament.
He said a preliminary study for this site had been done already.
“We will advance, but in relation to the land in terms of official forms, it’s yet to be handed over,” he said.
