The Maubisse Sub-District Administrator Luis Casimiro Lopes says Maubisse will become a centre for flowers that will attract many tourists in the future, because it has the potential to grow flowers and a beautiful landscape compared with other districts.
He said local government, in cooperation with the community, would hold a small festival in Maubisse to promote flowers in the district to all people.
He added this activity was a new experience for Timor-Leste, that’s why every year they would keep implementing it in order to promote tourism sites to all people.
“This is what we’re doing to promote Maubisse’s future, it does not die with the festival but we will keep going because our government has created facilities like greenhouses so we can create groups to plant flowers, rather than buy flowers from overseas for special occasions,” he said.
Sub-District Administrator Soares also thanked the foreigners who opened the minds of local government on the development potential of Maubisse.
On the other hand, initiator of the festival Takahashi Shiheulito said it was very important for Timor-Leste, especially Maubisse sub—district, to show its potential to all people.
He said through these activities they could give ideas to communities within the country, especially those with potential, to encourage them to plant flowers and to fix the economy within the home.
“When I hear that Timor buys flowers from overseas (Bali) I’m sad because within Timor there are flowers like roses, adeniums, orchids and so forth,” he said.
He added the festival would have many activities like a flower exhibition and they would also share information with the participants about how to make cards using dry flowers, which would be gathered for some local offices.
