The community in Kaibada village in Baucau district raised concernsaboutthe road that runs through their village, as after 11 years it’s still in a poor condition.
Kaibada Village Chief Antonio Francisco Belo said the road between Kaibada and Boruma village was a national road so the government should pay attention to it.
“The road was constructed during the Indonesian time and now it’s damaged, it’s never been fixed, so its condition is very poor,” he said.
He said they had sent proposals but there had been no reaction from the government in terms of fixing the road.
“We have submitted several proposals, but until now, it hasn’t been resolved,” said Belo.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Maria Angelica Rangel dos Reis said poor road conditionswere not only found in Baucau but almost everywhere.
“Now we see the road from Dili to Manatutu is starting to get better, but from Manatutu to Baucau it’s not,” said MP dos Reis.
Therefore, she called on the community to endure this a little longer because recently the government borrowed money from the Japanese government to rehabilitate the road from Baucau to Viqueque.
Meanwhile, Baucau District Administrator Antonio A. Ximenes said he had submitted a proposal to the national level about the road.
“Road connections to sub-villages are our responsibility, but for national roads we inform the national level,” said Administrator Ximenes.
However he said recently the World Bank came and measured the road from Baucau Flamboyan to Lautem.
“With the objective of fixing the road, so now the community is just waiting,” he said.
