The First Lady of Timor-Leste Isabel Fereira says she will lobby big businessmen on a plan to establish a temporary home for women to stay in after having a baby at the National Hospital Guido Valadares.

First Lady Isabel Fereira to lobby businessmen to fund a temporary home for expecting mothers at the national hospital.

She said it was just an idea and it was not yet fixed, as it took time to talk with businessmen.

“It’s still in the lobbying phase, generous people could help constructing the house for mothers who come from districts to give birth. It’s also an idea in my program to help rehabilitate health centres and to make tables and chairs for schools in rural areas,” said First Lady Isabel Fereira in Dili.

The idea occurred when the First Lady visited the National Hospital Guido Valadares (HNGV) and saw that it was difficult for mothers who did not have a home and family in Dili, because there isn’t enough space in the maternity room to accommodate all pregnant mothers.

She also said many companies thought about helping and in reality one company from Indonesia helped rehabilitate the Darlau Health Centre and gave chairs and tables to schools in remote areas.

The First Lady added she was currently organizing funding with businessmen to help give chairs and tables to schools in remote areas.

On the other hand, General Director of the HNGV Domingos Soares said the hospital was ready to offer a place for the First Lady to construct a house for mothers and patients’ families who came from a long way, because the hospital has insufficient facilities.

“There is a place and our technicians are still doing a proposal for the First Lady to establish a place for mothers and families who come from afar to stay, in order to look after the patients,” he said.
