The company Timor Corp handed over five coffee mill machines to the President of the Republic Taur Matan Ruak, to help coffee producing groups to mill their coffee.
Timor Corp handed over the five machines to the President after he personally asked for their help.
“The President said, if you have machines to give, bring them, as when I go to the districts people always demand them from me,” said Timor Corp Manager Jose Verdial after handing over the machines at the Presidential Palace.
He said Timor Corp had given a total of 300 machines to the people in Liquisa, Ermera, Maubise, Turiscai and Laclubar.
Verdial said the five machines were made in Columbia with a value of $2,800 per machine.
“In one day we can mill about 10 tonnes of coffee,” he said.
The Timor Corp Manager said he was also sad as some machines were given to coffee workers but now were used by small businesses.
According to him, Timor Corp offered the machines free to the workers so they could mill their coffee, but now some in the community traded the machines.
At the same time, the President of the Republic Taur Matan Ruak thanked Timor Corp for the support with the machines.
“Thank you for your cooperation in giving these machines to the population,” he said.
Serafin da Costa, a farmer from Ermera district, said they had a lot of coffee but they had difficulty because they had no machine to mill their coffee.
“Until now we’ve just manually milled coffee,” said da Costa.
Therefore, he called on the government to support them by giving them coffee mill machines, so they could mill their coffee.
