Parliament Administration is still processing the purchase of 65 new vehicles for the new Member of the National Parliament.
“I cannot recall the exact amount however I know money has already been allocated for the purchase of 65 new vehicles for the third legislature,” said Parliament Vice-President, Aderito Hugo (10/08), in Parliament, Dili.
According to him, the money for the purchase of these vehicles was already allocated in the 2012 State Budget (OJE).
Democratic Party (PD) Member of Parliament (MP) Virgilio da Costa Hornai said access to transport by MPs was extremely important for them to undertake their duties.
“Most important is budget execution, where MPs must go to the Districts, Sub-Districts, Sucos and Aldeias to check on the work being carried out using Government funds,” said Hornai.
He added MP’s must physically go and meet with the people, hear their concerns during their mandate, they are not supposed to sit in Parliament and twiddle their thumbs all that time.
“What are the issues, how can we convey them to Parliament and Government so relevant authorities can resolve them.”
