The Scientific Criminal Investigation Police (SCIP) has registered 56 criminal cases with the department of prosecution since being established in January 2015.

SCIP Deputy Director Adino Nunes Cabral said the majority were murder and fraud cases.
SCIP has also investigated cases of sexual violation and exploitation, as well as other cases involving falsification of documents, illegal gambling, vandalism and drugs.
Of these cases, some of these are still in the investigation process, while others have been referred to the prosecutor for trial, he said.
However, he said the prosecutor had also sent some cases from 2012 to the SCIP for further investigation because the perpetrators were still at large.
As a result some drug offenders had been identified and their cases were now before the court.
The SCIP has also been involved in investigating cases of human rights violations.
National MP Ana Ribeiro said although SCIP had made good progress, some challenges still remained.
“The National Parliament appreciates the work of SCIP and hope that they can work better in the future,” she said.
She also called on the government to provide better equipment like laboratory facilities.
“They need modern and proper equipment to conduct this work,” she said.
Regarding to the high rate of murder cases, she said it was necessary for security authorities to take serious action to address this issue.
