The new President of National Parliament, Aderito Hugo, has held a meeting with staff members in order to discuss any problems or issues in the workplace.

He said the aim was to hear their thoughts on the working environment, including any concerns they had.
He said some of the issues raised by staff included the lack of coordination between directors and staff, as well as the fact promotions were not always linked to work performance.
He added that National Parliament should set a proper standard of supervision and an assessment format for staff based on merit.
He said also directors should create an annual plan and have regular meetings with staff members to discuss work performance.
Hugo was elected as the new President of National Parliament on 5 May and replaces Vicente Guterres.
Although he only received a 14-month mandate, Hugo has promised to approve more laws and said it was therefore important to build the professional capacity of staff to support MPs in the process.
This meeting was attended by department directors, the General-Secretary and the head of directorates, as well as bench and commission leaders.
Meanwhile, the parliamentary Director of Research, Luis Nascimento de Jesus, said it was important to encourage staff to work more effectively in the future.
“We have raised the concerns and the President will try and fix it so that we can work more properly in the future,” he said.
He said the meeting could help empower staff to assist MPs at the commission, benches and the plenary.
MP Anna Ribeiro also supported the initiative and said it was the first time a meeting like this had been held.
