Dili Municipality Court, woman faces court after argument over unpaid debt.

According to the prosecution facts read by the President Judge, the accused (LS) borrowed $200 from the victim (HK) five months previous, but had not yet paid it back.

On August 20, 2015 at 10am, the victim asked her son to go to the home of the accused to try and get the money back. However, LS told him she had no money and would settle the debt later.

At 4pm on the same day, the victim herself went to the home of the accused house and told her, “I need that money if you have some please give it to me”. The court heard LS then suddenly picked up an ashtray threw at the victim, bruising her hand.

The victim then reported the incident to police immediately.

After the facts were read, the accused told the court that some of the accusations were true and that the victim had come to her house and shouted.

“It is a shame that I threw the ashtray at her, but I meant to hit the door not her,” she said.

The accused told the court she had taken the woman for medical treatment after the incident and had since apologized and returned the money.

When asked by the judge for her response, the victim said the matter had now been resolved.

“She has returned my money and we are fine,” the victim said.

After hearing the declarations, the judge president handed down a one-year suspended sentence, telling the accused not to commit such an offence again.
