The Timor-Leste government has purchased more than 257 motorcycles for Suburban Police (OPS) officers to help them perform their duties more effectively.

“Today we have handed over 257 motorcycles and 60 more will be handed over soon,” said National Police (PNTL) Commander,Julio Hornai, in Dili.
The government has also offered 155 police radios, as well as 170 laptops.
In 2014, the government approved the purchase of 26 motorcycles to assist the OPS to perform their duties at a grassroots level.
Hornai called on police officers to continue to work hard and maintain security across the country.
“Keep assuring the quality service of all entities and making a contribution to peace and freedom across all territories,” he said.
He also urged the OPS to use the motorcycles responsibly in their line of work.
Member of Parliament MP Anna Ribeiro confirmed that the National Parliament had approved the purchase of the motorcycles as the duties of the OPS were considered important for the country.
She also called on the OPS to continue its work at a grassroots level and build relationships between communities and security authorities.
“We approved the budget for the purchase of the motorcycles for the OPS, so they can work more effectively,” she said.
