A man has appeared in Dili Municipality court after he hit his younger brother following a dispute over a motorcycle.

The victim (YH) told the court that in March 2015 he had asked the accused (SD) if he could ride the motorcycle to Areia Branca, to which his brother agreed.
However, a short time after the accused received a call from his girlfriend and told his brother he would go out just for a minute and then he could have the bike when he came back.
“I was waiting for him patiently for four hours, but he did not show up and his phone was switched off,” the victim told the court.
When the accused returned at 8pm the victim became angry and the pair argued.
“I was angry and we got into a fight where he hit and kicked me,” he said.
However, he said the accused was sorry for his actions and the two were on good terms now.
Following the victim’s declaration, the accused agreed with the facts as outlined and declined to make a further statement when asked by the presiding judge.
The presiding judge handed down a one-year suspended sentence and warned the accused that he could face imprisonment if he appeared in court again for a similar offence.
