The movement of women organization (MOFFE) is working with Marie Stope’s Timor-Leste (MSITL) to promote sexual and reproductive education to young people.

Executive Director of MOFFE Yasinta Lujina said the initiative would target pre-primary and Secondary schools in Lautem, Covalima, Suai, Viqueque and Oecusse.
She said youth in rural areas in particular still lacked awareness about reproductive health.
“We have to help them by sharing information because through information they can have self-reflection and think about it,” said Lujina.
Meanwhile, President of Commission F (Health, Education, Culture, Veteran Affairs and Gender Equality) Member of Parliament MP Virgilio da Costa Hornai said the issue related to education and called for the competent ministry to add it to the national curriculum.
“Until now we have not added the subjects to the national curriculum,” Hornai said.
He also called on both the health and education ministries to conduct regular campaigns to raise awareness about the issue in rural communities.
“In reality, many married couples have no knowledge about it so they do not know to give spacing between births and they also lack any knowledge on how to use contraception,” he said.
