According to Member of the National Parliament MP Manuel Castro,the x-ray machine at the Baucau referral hospital has been out of order for over one and half years but it hasn’t been repaired nor replaced until now.
“It has been out of order for one and a half years. Those needing an x-ray have to go to the capital Dili. What is the Ministry of Health doing about this? It is their responsibility to fix it urgently,” said MP Castro at the National Parliament, Dili.
The MP has concerns because annually the national parliament allocated large sums of money to the MoH that should be enable it to resolve these issues.
The Director of the Baucau Referral Hospital Eugenio Soares confirmed the issue and added that he has raised the issue with the MoH repeatedly but no action has been taken so far.
“So we don’t provide x-ray services. I have raised this with the Ministry of Health but nothing has happened until now,” said Director Soares said.
TDW requested a comment from the Director General MS Jose Magno but the director was not available to comment.
