Member of Parliament Manuel Castro has called for the Ministry of Public Works to explain to the public why work on the road connecting Mehara and Tutuala has been halted for a year.

“National Parliament has an obligation to know the reason the project has been stopped,” the member of Commission E (infrastructure, transport and communications) said in Parliament.
“A lot of money has been spent on the Mehara to Tutuala road therefore we need good quality work,” he said.
Resident Natalino Pereira said work had started on the road three years ago.
“There has been no change,” he said.
Castro said when Commission E surveyed the road, it was dusty.
Public Works minister Gastao de Sousa said the delays had been caused by drawing up a new contract with the Miguel Group company.
He said the problems had arisen as the government had not paid the company.
