The government plans to build a new bus terminal at the Taibessi market to take passengers to Lospalos, Viqueque, Baucau and Manatuto.

Vice Prime Minister Fernando Lasama de Araujo said the government will establish a new bus terminal at the Taibessi Market site.

Deputy Prime Minister Fernando Lasama de Araujo said eastbound buses should depart from the new terminal as the existing Becora terminal was too small to handle the traffic burden.

“The buses will terminate at the terminal and passengers can be taken by taxi to their home, unlike in the districts where passengers are taken by the bus to their homes,” Lasama said.

He said the plan would also encourage passengers to purchase things at the Taibessi market.

“It’s a good plan and people will come and see the vendors’ vegetables and clothes,” he said.

Member of Parliament Maria AdozindaPires da Silva said the budget for the project was undetermined.

“There’s no budget for the project this year, we will wait for next year’s budget to be approved by Parliament before the terminal is built,” she said.

Baucau bus driver Carlos Alves said he supported the plan to have the buses terminate at Taibessi.

“As drivers we are happy because we will not take the passengers to their homes, we will just drop them at the terminal,” he said.
