The people of Labadai village in Covalima district have urged the Ministry of Public Work to repair the Labadai bridge, the poor condition of which they say is a threat to lives during rainy periods.

Resident Delfina Amaral Lopes said the bridge had been in disrepair for two years without intervention by the government.
“When it is raining we cannot pass,” he said.
“There are many potholes and when we ride a motorbike or drive a car we feel scared,” she said in Suai.
She urged the government to take action.
Member of Parliament Aniceto Lopes said the parliamentary plenary was continually discussing the condition of roads and bridges and it was incumbent on the government to ensure they were maintained.
Public Works minister Gastao de Sousa said technicians had been sent to Covalima to survey bridges before repairs could begin.
“We should take a close look at the damage and decide whether they need emergency repairs or not,” he said.
MOP teams had been deployed to all districts to identify the condition of roads and bridges, he said.
