Conflict prevention organization Belun has provided food to the Bogoro Widows’ Group in the sub-district of Bazartete in Liquisa.

The food program is a peace-supporting action by Belun which this year celebrated its 10th anniversary in Liquisa.
Belun executive director Luis Ximenes said the widows were themselves veterans who had fought for Timor-Leste’s independence and development.
He said work by the Widows’ Group president Madalena Bidau Soares (alias Sister Kasian) had a profound impact on the area.
“Sister Kasian as a veteran and a widow; she has established a kindergarten school and primary school. This really helps,” Director Ximenes said in Bogoro.
He said Belun was appreciative of the work by the widows and hoped that the goods provided would help them.
The goods donated included 10 sacks of rice as well as noodles, soap, toothpaste, books and other items.
Sister Kasian thanked Belun for its help.
She said the group’s school was not yet covered by the government school feeding program but the widows provided food for the students out of their own pocket.
“The rice can help us to feed the children through the school feeding program,” she said.
