Youth Parliament Cecilia Rosario, from Ainaro has called for capacity building training for youth parliamentarians who have received no training since their induction last August.

Rosario said it was important for delegates to receive capacity building training from the government as soon as possible as their youth parliament terms lasted for only two years.

She urged the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports (SEJD) to provide training for them as they are the eyes and ears for Timor-Leste youths.

National Council of Timorese Youth (CNJTL) representative, João do Nascimento recognized this issue but said the budget was limited.

“Since the budget is late, we can do nothing,” he said.

However he said the training would begin shortly.

The training will focus on the issues such as human rights, citizenship, corruption, gender equality promotion, children’s rights and the environment.

The capacity building training will take place during holidays so as not to interrupt youth parliamentarians’ educations.

The program began in 2010 by the government and was financially and technically supported by UNICEF with the aim to prepare charismatic and intelligent leaders for the future.
