The Judicial System Monitoring Program (JSMP) is very concerned about the lack of facilities at the Institute of Public Lawyers so it can carry out its duties.
JSMP executive director, Luis de Oliveira Sampaio said sometimes public lawyers want to attend to the cases of rural residents but they don’t have transportation available to travel to the rural areas.
“It’s important to take the photographs of clients that can be used as proof in court, but they cannot take photographs because they don’t have cameras,” director Sampaio said.
He added it is not only the lack of facilities but also of lack of human resources as “one lawyer attends over 100 cases.”
The issues were raised after a 2013 research study report was presented by JSMP.
Public Lawyers President, Sergio Hornai said every year, despite there being a budget allocation, the amount is too small.
“We use the budget proportionally and wisely and we try to avoid wasting any funds.”
