The Thai government, through its embassy in Timor-Leste, has donated more than $2,700 to the Alola Foundation to assist women’s groups to improve the quality of the goods they produce.
The Thai ambassador to Timor-Leste,Tawachai Koopirom, said the Thai government is committed to supporting its partners through cooperative activities in order to encourage victims of domestic violence to overcome their trauma.
This support would help women’s groups to improve the quality of their products such as tais and accessories.
“We are committed to supporting Alola to promote women’s groups’ activities and help them fix the quality of their production,” Ambassador Koopirom said at the endowment at the Alola Foundation headquarters at Maskarenhas, Dili.
He said this was not the first time the Thai government had supported groups in Timor-Leste.
Each year, the Thai government gives financial support to FOKUPERS and Alola Foundation to promote maternal and infant health and educate women and help them to improve their economic prospects.
In the period from2012 to 2014, the Thai government gave $11,000 to the FOKUPERS and Alola Foundation.
Alola Foundation executive director Alzira Reis had not yet devised a plan to spend the money but thanked the Thai government for its commitment to improving women’s economic prospects.
She said as the endowment was small, it would be used to provide women’s groups with small donations.
She said money from the Thai government allowed Alola Foundation to support the activities of women’s groups in Bobonaro.
