Machinery used to make identification cards is back in working order after being broken for almost a year.
Community services were held back before the machine was fixed by the Ministry of Justice, using funds allocated in the 2014 state budget.
Justice Minister Dionisio Soares Babo said the machine was operated by two companies; Timorese Joint Venture and an international company.
“The machinery has been repaired and is working,” Minister Babo said in his office in Colmera, Dili.
Minister Babo said the ministry will ensure the machine is properly maintained in future.
“That way it cannot be damaged,” he said.
Member of Parliament Josefa Alvares Soares said during the recent debate of the 2014 state budget that the National Parliament approved funds to repair the machinery.
She said it was very important to repair the machine as every citizen needed an identification card.
“It’s so important that we feel safe and free to go wherever we wish” MP Soares said.
