Thirty members of Falintil – Defense Force of Timor-Leste (F-FDTL) attended training aboard US vessel USS Kidd for a period of one month.
Brigadier General Filomeno Paixao said 90 naval members in total took part in training led by the US troops.
Thirty were trained aboard the battleship with a further 60 trained on land.
“They learnt about operating the ship and how to use the machines in the battleship,” Brigadier Paixao said, in Dili.
Others learnt about the maintenance of the ship, including what machines should be used to fix any damage.
“I hope what they have learnt and gained will help develop the F-FDTL institution go forward,” Paixao said.
USA Rear Admiral Candy The baud said the purpose of the visit was for the navies of USA and Timor-Leste to train together and to share their experiences.
“I think sharing experiences with one another can better and enhance our knowledge,” The baud said.
The baud said by sharing experiences, we can develop and tighten the bilateral cooperation between the United States of America and Timor-Leste in the future.
Member of Commission B (for security, defense and foreign affairs) MP Cesar Valente said he appreciated the bilateral cooperation efforts made by the American and Timorese navies.
“The USA has given a lot of support to Timor-Leste in all sectors and it is a positive step to broaden the relation with the navy,” MP Valente said.
