Football fan association Amante has levelled allegations of corruption at the Timor-Leste Football Federation as the federation has not published a report concerning funds received from Digicel Company and Timor Telecom.
Amante spokesman Jose Luis de Oliveira said the contract between FFTL and the communications companies committed funds to renovate the wall surrounding the Democracy field, but FFTL had made no mention of the total budget for the project.
“They never informed the public, never announced the report to the public about the income and outcome,” Oliveira said when he met Commission F at National Parliament.
He said based on the information which he had received, the total amount committed to the project by Digicel was more than $500,000.
“We haven’t seen a tournament so where is the money?” he asked.
Oliviera said FFTL had previously rented Democracy field out to artists to use for a concert but the money from that venture was nowhere to be found.
Meanwhile, Amante co-ordinator Jose Carvalho urged FFTL to hold a public discussion with Amante.
“We don’t want to talk incorrectly; an open discussion should be implemented in order to find out where the truth is,” he said.
Commission F (education, health, culture, veteran and gender equality) President Member of Parliament (MP) Virgilio Hornai said FFTL’s actions in not reporting the $500,000 income as well as the counterfeiting of documents to show decreased player ages, were crimes.
Commission F also raised concerns about the naturalisation of footballers and the lack of a budget report from the Secretary of State for Youth (SEJD).
Commission F urged SEJD to facilitate a discussion between FFTL and Amante to resolve the problem.
Secretary of State Miguel Manetelo said SEJD would not intervene in the affairs of FFTL.
“Why would the government intervene? The government intervenes if FIFA at for the government needs to intervene, the government just intervenes when FIFA suspends,” SE Manetelo said.
He called on the FFTL manager to take on board criticism from others as this criticism should be motivation to improve.
