The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNEK) Constancio Pinto said a group of Timorese students suspected of murder in Malang-Indonesia has been taken into custody.
“The suspects have been captured; one has just passed away,” Deputy Minister Pinto said at the National Parliament.
Seven suspects are accused of the crime.
The Deputy Minister Pinto said the suspects must comply with Indonesian law, as the crime was committed there.
Member of Commission F (education, culture, health, veterans and gender equality affairs), MP Bendita Moniz Magno the case was being handled by the Indonesian Police.
The MP added one of the suspects involved in the case had died.
“He passed away on the fixed day for bringing him to Timor to go on trial in the court,” she said.
“I was there when it took place, we accompanied the education representative and talked with all ministries to resolve the problem, then deported the corpse to Timor,” said MP Magno.
MP Eladio Faculto called on the government to pay attention to the sites where conflict often occurs and results in death.
“At least they went to study to elevate their intelligence however they then involved themselves in this murder group,” MP Faculto said.
He said with the budget of 2014 the government should create a policy increase the security of students studying in Indonesia.
He also called on the education representative in Jakarta to be proactive in holding evaluation on students’ behaviour.
