
A lot of communities in Baucau district stilldon’t have access to electricity and havecalled on the government to pay attention to the issue. 
Kaibada Village Chief Antonio Francisco Belo said they had been in the process of fixing the electricity cable in Kaibada for nearly three years but it was still not finished.
“In my village, there are many sub-villages that are yet to access electricity,” Belo said.
He appealed for the relevant ministries to look into the issue seriously, as he said it was important.
Member of Parliament Francisco da Costa said MPs raisedconcerns like this everyday in the plenary of parliament.
“I think the government is putting in the effort to look into these issues, as we see in some districts they are starting to get 24 hour electricity,” he said.
Baucau District Administrator Antonio A. Ximenes said of the 59 villages in Baucau, 18 don’t have electricity cables.
“There are 41 villages that can access electricity and 18 villages that cannot yet,” said Ximenes.
He added communities yet to access electricitypatiently used candlesand lamps to resolve the problem of not having light.
“We will keep proposing this list and recommend village chiefs continue raising this issue, but it depends on the central government’s policy,” said Ximenes.
