The Criminal Investigation Service police are yet toinvestigate a malpractice case that resulted in the death of a patient at the National Hospital Guido Valadares because they’re still waitingon a dispatch from the Public Prosecutor.

SIK Acting Chief Manuel Alves said they were waiting for a dispatch from the Public Prosecutor to investigate a case of malpractice at the national hospital.

Criminal Investigation Service (SIK) Acting Chief Manuel Alves said police had given the information and a report to the Public Prosecutor about the case.

“We hope that when the dispatch from the Public Prosecutor is given, we can hold an investigation into the doctors who were working at thetime,” said Acting Chief Alves in Kaikoli, Dili.

He said SIK went to look for information immediately but it couldn’t be done as they were disturbed by the victim’s family, who were very noisy.

In regards to the number of people involved in the case, he said they did not know but he said the doctors who were treating the patient certainly caused the victim’s death.

The incident happened in the HNGV emergency room on September 19 and resulted in the death of patient Erosfita Fine due to suspected malpractice.

The 39 year old died after two medical interns injected medicine into the victim based on a recipe given by Cuban doctors.

HNGV Clinic Director Aniceto Barreto said one Cuban doctor and two interns treated the patient at the time and they would continue to work as doctors and interns because they had not made a decision on the case.

“I think the investigation is running, so the investigation will bring us to a conclusion,” said the Clinic Director at HNGV.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Ilda Maria da Conçeição said the incident scared the community about treatment at the hospital, as people went there in a good condition but died in the hands of doctors.

“They should hold an investigation, I don’t know the victim’s family but they also could take this case to court because it caused a person’s death,” she said.
