A road rehabilitation project between Manatuto and Natarbora administrative posts has been abandoned by the company.
The National Member of Parliament, Manuel Castro was disappointed that the works, which started in 2015, have not yet been completed.
The road works were supposed to run from Manatuto to Laklubar administrative post and on to Natarbora.
“It’s been in the works a-year-and-a-half and it has just reached 17% [complete], what is the problem,” said Castro.
Although National Parliament approved the budget for the project last year, he said the company had since asked for additional funding to complete the works, but it wasn’t clear why.
Monitoring by Commission E (responsible for infrastructure, transport and communication) also showed that a one meter hole had been dug in one section when according to the design it should have only been 40 to 6cm in length.
“Why the government doesn’t look at this, if not the government, [then] who will take this responsibility? said Castro.
In response to the concerns raised, the Minister of Public Works, Transport, and Communication (MPWTC), Gastão de Sousa, said the government could not provide any additional funding at this stage as it had not yet received a report from the company.
“Until now we have not had any report yet, but we will look at the issue when we have had the report,” he said.
However, de Sousa said he was prepared to hold talks with the company in order to find a solution.
