There are calls for Timor-Leste Electricity (EDTL) to fix power supply issues in the Ermera municipality.

National MP MP Ancelmo da Conceição said the service always came late and sometimes there was no service at all.
He said some communities in Fatubesi suku (village) had not had power for two months due to an electrical circuit fault and the problem had still not been fixed.
He said although the matter had been raised with the Directorate of EDTL in the Ermera municipality, the community had not yet had any response.
Some communities in Hatulia administrative post have also had their electricity cut off.
He called for the issue to be resolved, saying communities had the right to fast, reliable power supply from authorities.
“The electricity is the communities’ basic needs and they should access to electricity because it is their right,” he said.
In response to the issue, Deputy Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communication (MPWTC) Januario da Costa Pereira acknowledged that electricity supply was an issue in some areas, but the government was taking steps to fix the problem.
“We will look at how to fix it,” he said.
Resident Maria Carvalho said the service in Dili city was a lot faster compared to rural areas.
“I hope that they (EDTL) can provide the same service in rural areas,” she said.
