A woman has divorced her husband for humiliating her in a public place following a domestic violence trial held at Dili Municipality Court (DMC).
According to facts read by the Presiding Judge, the accused began spying on his wife in February 215 after he became suspicious the victim was having an affair with a man at her office. However, the man in question was in fact her boss and their discussions were work-related.
The accused entered the office and began shouting at the victim in front of her colleagues.
Upon returning home with her husband, the victim asked for divorce, after which her husband hit and kicked her.
She reported the incident to the police and the trial process was started.
The victim told the court that there had been no further incidents and that they had since resolved their problems.
“Right now, we are fine and we have solved it,” she said.
After hearing the victim’s declaration the presiding judge imposed a one-year suspended sentence and ordered the accused to refrain from such behavior in future.
