
The Minister of State, Coordinator of State Administration Affairs and Justice and Minister of State Administration Dr. Dionisio Babo said a maintenance program of basic infrastructure, roads and bridges, will begin across three municipalities – Aileu, Ermera and Liquisa.

Minister Babo said many roads have been built across the whole country but so far routine maintenance the roads has not been done consistently but if it has been done at least once monthly that roads would last longer.
“The roads from Dili to Ermera and Liquisa have just been asphalted but sometimes, travelling through the roads, they are full of debris which could destroy the roads; but i have put the onus back on each municipality to look into this issue,” said Minister Babo.
He added the road maintenance program would begin in the municipalities of Aileu, Liquisa and Ermera and would go for a year.
The program is being financed and supported by the the United Nation Development Program (UNDP).
“The UNDP provided $50.000 and 12 motorbikes were offered to technical engineers in the municipalities to monitor roads and for road maintenance,” said also the Minister.
Member of Parliament MP Albina Marçal said the agrees with this government initiative to keep roads and bridges maintained routinely.
“Maintenance is very important and will guarantee the quality of the roads and prevent damage,” said MP Marçal.
The MP also thanked the international agencies for offering financial support and other support to ensure the program is implemented successfully.
“We are grateful for such support and it demonstrates good cooperation.”
