Teachers at Lospalos school EBC are calling for English-language books for the school’s library.

Ninth grade teacher Maria Isabela Savio said the school needs not only books but also desks and chairs as some children are forced to sit on the floor during classes.
Savio said the books provided to the school by the Ministry of Education were not suitable and do not adhere to the curriculum.
“We face many problems including that we have no rooms and no library,” she said.
School director Marcos da Costa said the ministry must create good conditions for teachers so they could provide quality education to their students.
“They must increase teachers’ salaries so teachers have the desire to teach the students to be good people,” he said.
Da Costs said the lack of classrooms would have negative impacts on the students.
The school’s two classrooms had been damaged and classes were impossible during rainy season as the rooms filled with water, he said.
Da Costa said good facilities were key to providing effective, quality education.
