Member of National Parliament (MP) Albina Marcal Freitas has asked why Timor-Leste National Police (PNTL) cars earmarked for auction in 2012 are still yet to be sold.

MP Freitas said institutions such as the PNTL have rules which state that cars which are not in use may be auctioned off.

“If they are just kept in there it can spoil the environment and also it means less space for car parking,” MP Freitas said at National Parliament.

Therefore she called on the authority to raise the issue with the state patrimony.

In response to this concern,PNTL Chief Logistical Officer Superintendent Basilio de Jesus said in 2012 the authority submitted the auction proposal to the Ministry of Defense.

The proposal was approved but the auction has still not been held due to delays on the part of the state patrimony team.

“However in 2014 we will hold the auction, this March,” Superintendent de Jesus said.

He said the cars to be auctioned fell into two categories; those which were in good condition and some which were out of order.

He said 138 cars will be auctioned which have been selected by the unit and the department from 13 districts.

“Currently we are registering all the cars. After that, the team from state patrimony will check and then publish the auction information to the public,” he said.
