The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) will allocate funds to repair Samalari’s bridge, in Baucau district, which has been damaged for a year.
Secretary of Public Works (SEOP) Luis Vas Rodrigues said urban development funds would be allocated to repair the bridge.
“We will survey and repair it based on the existing plans,” Rodrigues said in Dili.
He said it was important to receive a report from the regional directors so MOP knows how much money will be needed to repair the bridge.
“It is necessary to get the report from the technicians before we allocate the funds,” he said.
He said the 2014 urban development budget was $30,664, less than the 2013 budget of $46,500.
Member of Parliament Ana Ribeiro said the government needed to fix the bridge so Samalari residents could travel to the next village.
“When I went to Baucau, the Samalari Village Chief asked me about that bridge,” MP Ribeiro said.
