Secretary of State for Industry and Cooperative (SEIK) Filipus Nino Pereira said the department will upgrade the Bebora food warehouse using funds allocated from the State General Budget (OJE) 2014. 
SE Pereira said the warehouse needed to be fixed so it could store local products such as beans and rice bought by the government from communities.
“We also will have a look into the security because we heard the warehouse in Bebora was burgled,” said SE Pereira.
The Member of Parliament said SEIK did not need to build more warehouses as agricultural production was not efficient and the harvest surplus was not big enough to warrant new storage facilities.
This inefficiency was the fault of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAP), he said.
He said a project undertaken by MAP several years ago to distribute tractors was flawed as many of the machines ended up in unsuitable places.
Some tractors were given to people living in the mountains, he said.
“We provided a proper warehouse but the Ministry of Agriculture’s plan was not efficient in increasing production,” he said.
However MP Domingos Carvalho de Araujo said local products from Aileu district were always brought directly to the national warehouse as there was no warehouse within Aileu boundaries.
“In the future, we should construct a warehouse in the district to keep the product local,” said the CNRT MP.
