Member of Parliament MP Manuel Castro questioned in parliament a project to build a new road extending over 20 kilometres and linking Oeleu Village, in BobonaroDitrict, to Tilomar and Suai villages, in Manufahi District.

The project started in 2002 and so far only 5 kilometres of road have been built.

MP Manuel Castro said the project was valued at $32,120 thousand.

“I don’t know where all the money went. The company only has some $3 thousand left and the work has halted,” said MP Castro.

He urged the Ministry of Public Work to look into the matter.

“I hope they do it because we monitored the area and this is the reality we found,”said MP Castro.

Meanwhile the Secretary of State for Public Works (SEOP), Luis Vas Rodrigues, noted his knowledge of the project and the poor results to date.

“The company had financial difficulties but we already called upon the company to be accountable and take responsibility,” said SE Rodrigues. “They [the company] must be responsible for completing the work.”
