Member of Parliament MP Ilda Maria da Conceição, Commission F (Health, Education, Gender Equality and Veterans Affairs), demands an investigation into the purchase of an un-usable water-ambulance that cost the public purse some $400,000.
She also raised the issue of a smaller water-ambulance vessel that is missing.
“An investigation is needed into the two vessels because one is damaged and the other one is missing. We don’t know whether it sank or is lost. There isn’t clear information,” said MP da Conceição.
Meanwhile the National Director of Health Support Services of the Ministry of Health, Horacio Sarmento, acknowledged the new water-ambulance has never been used because it was damaged.
“We are in the final stages of maintenance. We are just waiting for some parts to arrive from Surabaya,” said Director Sarmento.
The Director of Dili’s District Health, Agostinha da Costa, said in the meantime the Maritime Police has been providing assistance transferring patients from Atauro Island to the national hospital.
“We are working together with the Maritime Police to transfer patients to the national hospital,” said Director da Costa.
