The Falintil Defence Force of Timor-Leste has plans to create a new system for the Maritime Force together with the Maritime Police and relevant ministries to be called the Maritime Authority System. 
Brigadier General Filomeno Paixao said the Maritime Authority System would control the areas around the Timor Sea well.
“So we don’t compete to buy things like ships, and we can’t buy a lot of weapons so we’ll use them together, because we think people still face difficulties,” he said at the Presidential Palace in Dili.
He guaranteed the system would have advantages, as the system had been planned since 2009 but it would be implemented this year.
“It seems that when this system is implemented, there will not be the need to buy a lot of ships and other things,” Paixao said.
Meanwhile Member of Parliament Duarte Nunes said he supports the plan, as this issue had become a concern for the public.
“For me, if this becomes a reality it will be better as it’s more efficient, even though we walk together, each of us does different work,” MP Nunes said.
He said if a crime happened it would be the work of the police, if people brought things illegally into the country it would be the work of customs and F-FDTL would act if the nation were threatened.
However he said in-depth research was needed before creating this system so it could last a long period of time and continue to exist.
