The companies Estrada Bo’ot Diak and Eudia Karya will trial Petra soil products for road rehabilitation within Dili.
Head of Estrada Bo’ot Diak Ilidio Cardoso said they would use Petra soil products, as the new material was of good quality.
“In Timor it always rains and this product can go a long way during the rainy season, so the road won’t be easily damaged,” said Cardoso at Hotel Timor, Dili.
He said the product could also normalize soil and rainwater, so rainwater would not damage the road.
According to plans, it will be tested on a road in Tasi Tolu, especially for the small potholes in the road.
On the other hand, Member of Parliament Inacio Moreira said they could construct roads with any chemical materials, but it was very important that the work should be of good quality.
“With good quality, so it will last a long time,” said MP Moreira.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Public Works Gastão de Sousa said it was possible to use this product but they would look at the cost of it.
“They will use it in Tasi Tolu as an experiment and if it rains we will see whether this product gets damaged or not,” Minister de Sousa said.
He also said it would take a long process to start using this product, and they couldn’t just look then buy it and build with poor quality.
“After they will try to use it for about four or five kilometres of road, so that we can guarantee its quality and if it’s quality then we will buy it.”
