The Dili District Administrator Gaspar Soares says many of the Water and Sanitation Service (SAS) cars for Dili district are damaged or broken down, as there is no maintenance budget.

Dili District Administrator Gaspar Soares is concerned about the condition of the SAS cars, as they are broken and cannot be repaired because there’s no budget.

“The consequence is that many government cars are broken down,” said Administrator Soares in Dili.

Apart from this, he said they also had limitations with work computers, as the computers were donated by UNTATET and now almost all of them don’t work.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament from the National Reconstruction Congress of Timor (CNRT) bench, Manuel da Costa Guterres, said this was a failure of the Ministry of State Administration and Territorial Management.

“The Ministry of State Administration and Territorial Management knows that if they handover cars to an administrator, of course the general state budget must also be allocated for maintenance,” said MP Guterres.

The MP said the budget for car maintenance had been put in the ministry’s plan.

“If the cars are handed over and there is no money for maintenance to fix the cars, it means that the Ministry of State Administration and Territorial Management doesn’t have a plan, “ he said.

When TDW tried to confirm this issue with the Minister of State Administration Jorge Da Conçeição Teme, his advisor Jacinta Hanjam said the issue would be resolved soon.

“We will resolve the problem soon,” said Hanjam.
