
A man who hit his wife after she refused to let him continue a late night phone call, has appeared in Dili Municipality Court.

According to facts outlined in court by the presiding judge, the incident occurred on August 13, 2015 at about 1.30am after the accused was woken up by the phone ringing.
His wife was also woken up by the sound, but pretended to still be asleep. The accused went outside to take the call and continued talking for an hour and a half.
The court heard the victim became upset about the situation and so she went outside and asked her husband to switch off the phone, but he refused and continued talking.
When the victim grabbed the phone off him the accused slapped his wife and took the phone back and returned to the room to sleep.
After the victim continued muttering, the accused came out of the room again and picked up a children’s ball and threw it at her back.
Asked for his response to the accusations, the accused told the presiding judge he agreed with the facts as outlined.
The victim told the court she had discovered had talking to another woman, but that they had since resolved their differences and there had not been any further violent incidents.
The accused was charged with minor physical assault with domestic violence under penal code number 145, with the prosecution asking the court to impose a suitable sentence.
Meanwhile, the presiding judge ordered the accused to pay an administrative penalty to the accused.
