A man has appeared in Dili Municipality court for hitting his wife for not listening to him and not following his instructions.

According to the facts of the case read by the presiding judge, the incident occurred after the accused (DG) asked the victim (JL) to take some money to his brother so he could travel to their home town of Bobonaro, to which she replied “Why don’t you take it yourself”.
The accused continued to ask the victim to take the money, but she ignored his requests and began to watch television.
While the accused initially remained quiet, he later became angry due to his wife’s refusal and an argument erupted, during which he hit and slapped the victim.
After hearing the declaration, the accused told the court that he had hit his wife because she did not listen to what he said.
“I asked her to give the money to my brother, but she did not,” he said.
However, he said their relationship was now stable and that he and his wife continue to live together at the same house.
After hearing the declaration, the presiding judge handed down a one-year suspended sentence to the accused and warned him not repeat his actions.
