A woman has appeared in Dili municipality court for hitting her husband after he refused to buy her perfume.

According to the facts read by the presiding judge, the incident occurred on 26 September 2015 when the victim (LS) and the accused (MF) went to the market to buy vegetables.
While there, the woman asked her husband to buy her some perfume, but he refused as he had no money so she bought it herself.
An argument later erupted on the way home, with the accused hitting and pinching the victim.
The husband took his wife to his sister’s house, but she refused to go inside when they arrived and drove home herself.
The matter was then reported to the police by the victim’s sister.
The accused told the court that she had lost her temper as she was angry with the victim at the time.
“I was angry, but I love my husband and I will never take such action again,” she said.
She said her husband had left their home for one day after the incident, but she had apologized and they had since reconciled.
When the judge then asked the victim for his response, he said only that he agreed with the facts as presented to the court.
After hearing the declaration, the judge president handed down a one-year suspended sentence, telling the accused not to commit such an offence again.
