
The Dili Municipality Court (DMC) heard a case of simple integrity offences between two brothers-in-law. Accused AT hit the victim YG, who married his sister but whom he suspected was seeing another woman.

The accusation made by the Ministry of Public Prosecutions and read by the presiding judge of the DMC stated that one afternoon at about 5pm, the accused AT was sitting with his friends at Cristo Rei Beach when he suddenly spotted his brother-in-law YG hugging another woman as if they were a couple and climbing the Cristo Rei hill.
What AT saw surprised even this friends so together they waiting until YG and his female friends descended the hill and without speaking, AT punched YG in the mouth, causing the victim to bleed. He then kicked YG in the stomach. In the meantime the police arrived and the incident was reported.
After reading the accusation, the presiding judge asked if the accused AT wished to make a statement but before he could the victim interrupted and told the judge he wished to reconcile with the accused because he realised his actions were not appropriate.
Victim YG added that the accused’s action served as a reminder for him never behave in such a manner again.
“I deeply regret doing such a stupid thing and I am grateful that my brother-in-law reminded me of it,” added the victim YG.
After hearing the victim’s statement, the presiding judge ordered them to reconcile in peace with one another.
