The Director General of the Ministry of Education (ME) Antoninho Pires said the ministry will never allow teachers to wear martial arts or political party clothes in the classroom as this would break existing regulations.
He said ME’s office of inspections will go to do verification and if proved, teachers face disciplinary sanctioning.
“They will get disciplinary sanctioned because this breaks the regulations,” said Director Pires in Dili.
According to the same regulation teachers are also obliged to wear standard school uniforms while teaching.
In a previous occasion Member of the National Parliament MP Jorge Teme has already questioned the issue and cited an example of teachers in Ermera municipality wearing martial arts and political party clothes inside the classroom.
The MP warned then this would influence students to follow suit.
“They demonstrate a total lack of discipline when wearing these types of clothes for teaching,” said also MP Teme.
He urged the Ministry of Education (ME) to better guide the teachers to wear the proper uniforms in the teaching and learning process.
“I think this is not good and the ministry should look at the issue,” said also MP Teme.
