Member of Parliament MP Ana Ribeiro urged the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communication (MPWTC) to repair roads in Baguia Administrative Post in Baucau Municipality immediately as the roads are extremely damaged.
According the MP the roads in Bauguia are in such a bad state that they are having an impact on pregnant women who pass through the road.
“Pregnant women will absolutely fall victim to the poor roads therefore immediate repair is needed,” MP Riberio told the National Parliament, in Dili.
Ribeiro added when it rains, the roads fill with water and this can lead to road accidents.
“During the rainy season, the road looks like a pool and often causes people who drive motorbikes to suffer accidents,” said the MP.
The MP also urged the MPWTC in the meantime fill potholes so that at least the communities can pass and do their daily activities until the road is fully repaired.
In response to the concerns, the Minister of Public Work Gastao de Sousa said the government is struggling to resolve the problem with the Baguia roads.
“But we are currently addressing the issues,” said Minister Sousa.
The minister said immediate repairs as indeed needed.
