Doctor Herculano Seixas dos Santos has warned against taking antibiotics without a prescription, as it could lead to major health implications.

“You must have a doctor’s prescription because otherwise you do not know the correct dose of the medicine or what type of illness you have,” he said.
Taking antibiotics without cause can lead to heart, kidney and brain problems, he said.
“It can kill you,” he said.
Commission F (health, culture, veterans’ affairs and gender equality) president Virgilio da Costa Hornai said antibiotics were freely available from neighbourhood kiosks.
“Awareness should be raised that when you get sick, you should go to the hospital and get a prescription,” he said.
Jose Fernandes said he has taken medicine without prescriptions in the past.
He said he had purchased the same medicines previously prescribed to him by doctors.
