After one year of operation, there are now six doctors treating patients at the Timor-Leste National Police (PNTL) clinic.
PNTL clinic chief Inspector Abilio de Araujo said last year there were only two doctors at the clinic whereas now there are six doctors and 12 nurses.
“Now we are giving better treatment compared to a couple of years ago,” he said.
The six doctors re newly returned to Timor-Leste after having graduated from medical school in Cuba.
The doctors treat new recruits at the Police Academy.
“There is one doctor who I sent there,” Inspector de Aruajo said.
Member of Parliament (MP) Albina Marcal Freitas said good progress had been made and the new doctors would provide adequate treatment for PNTL members who are sick.
“Therefore it’s important to increase the number of doctors, nurses as well as medicine stocks in this clinic,” MP Freitas said.
She said the clinic does not only treat police members but also their families, as there would not be sufficient medicine stocks or doctors to treat them otherwise.
