The Chinese government will build a modern eight-story military hospital behind the Defence Forces General Headquarters in Fatuhada, in the capital Dili, to provide healthcare services for military personnel.

Minister of Defence, Rear Admiral Donaciano da Costa Gomes “Pedro Klamar Fuik”, said the hospital will be a donation from the Chinese government to the Falintil-Defence Forces of Timor-Leste (F-FDTL).

“This military hospital will be built in a modern style with eight floors and will be equipped with 100 beds and other modern medical facilities to assist military personnel in receiving treatment when they fall ill,” he said.

He added that the eight-story military hospital will also include a dedicated emergency room and specialised inpatient wards for VIPs and regular patients.

“I would like to emphasize that the military hospital, according to the plan, will provide treatment for all types of illnesses and will specialize in oncology, neurology, cardiology, and other identified medical conditions in Timor-Leste,” he explained.

Regarding the recruitment of doctors and specialists for the state-of-the-art military hospital, the Minister said the final phase of preparations is underway to establish a Commission for the hospital project and to recruit healthcare personnel.

Meanwhile, Fundasaun Mahein (FM) Executive Director Nelson Belo welcomed the construction of the military hospital, highlighting it will provide dignified medical treatment facilities for military personnel.

“We do not want to see situations like in the past, where many soldiers died in emergency situations simply because they did not receive proper treatment. These incidents affect the military and many in the community,” he said.He hopes that with the establishment of the military hospital, military personnel and their families and the public will receive adequate medical care.
