The poor facilities at Cristo Rei, including garbage dumping and inadequate toilets with no clean water, is leaving a bad impression on visitors to the area.

MP Brigida Correia said she was disappointed with the conditions, particularly as it was a tourist attraction and sacred place.
“Visitors want a clean place to spend time with their families, not to see and smell those things,” she said.
A similar situation can also be found at Largo Lecidere Park, which has dirty toilets and no clean water.
“I exercise in Largo Lecidere and I am afraid to use the toilets there,” she said.
Correia blamed the lack of coordination between the relevant institutions for the failure to keep facilities clean at tourist attractions.
She said the current conditions could harm people’s health and also discourage people from visiting the area.
In response to the concerns raised, the National Director for Water and Sanitation (NDWS), Gustavo da Cruz, acknowledged that the plumbing system had been out of order for a month.
“It was out of order and last week we have just repaired some of the machines and we have responded to the needs of visitors in some areas,” he said.
While the issues in Cristo Rei have not yet been resolved, da Cruz said a NDWS team would perform maintenance works soon and fix water supply issues.
The poor facilities at Christo Rei means visitors to the area cannot use the toilets or get changed.
