The Vice Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communication Eng Inacio Moreira said the Timorese government has pledged to allow two additional flights to fly to Timor-Leste.
The Vice Minister said current flights from Dili to Indonesia are very expensive and that adding two additional carriers will ensure ticket prices drop due to higher demand and competition.
“Two companies have made requests and expressed interest in flying to Timor-Leste. We are currently looking at how we will be able to authorize the two additional flights,” said Vice Minister Moreira in Dili.
“Before allowing the two flights to operate in Timor, the government needs to assess carefully the quality of the planes and passenger capacity.”
He added the two potential additional flights will be from Indonesia and the other from Singapore.
Member of Commission E (for infrastructure, transport and communication) Member of Parliament Manuel Castro said that even though he supports this plan that the government needs to make sure the planes flying are of quality.
“The condition of the planes needs to be checked to avoid unexpected problems with the flights in,” said P Castro.
